Technology Integration in Primary Education

Technology Integration in Primary Education

According to the education report from Australia, the most important thing that young people should be given is basic literacy and sufficient skills so that they are able to participate in the currently digitalized and hyper-connected society. However, the technology and digitalization has led to challenges in schools and has resulted in their social lives being affected in one way or another.   Due to the rising technology, teachers, principals, and leaders in schools are in need of change so as to align themselves to the changing technology so that the students are taught through what they are familiar with, like a computer, internet, and many others. They need to accept the changes and move on since the world that their students currently live in is different from theirs.

Integrating technology is not an easy task. It entails planning and understanding the issues, problems, and challenges that come with it. This will take time. However, it is worth it since the teachers, principals and other education officials are the ones to set the pace and the tone in which the students will use so as to improve and attain the ICT levels that they require.   Due to the technology integration in primary education, schools have changed from teacher-centered to student-centered. This means that what matters is the students to get knowledge, succeed and get a good career. The schools that are already integrating technology by teaching and learning will definitely recognize the connection with the curriculum that is linked to the digital technology.   As a result of technology integration, the students will find out about exciting curriculums like coding, website creation, and many others. Such activities are genuine and relevant to any student’s education. More so, integrating technology will help the students learn how to solve problems using the current technology, the computational thinking process, share ideas as well as innovation by use of the software packages that are used to analyze data.

Technology integration can be used for student engagement, good management of time, motivating students as well as meeting their personal needs. Technology has changed a lot of people in one way or another. In fact, there is no kid who does not know about the World Wide Web, Google, or how to operate the digital phones. This means people have moved from the traditional techniques of education to the 21st century kind of learning which involves creativity, problem-solving and idea-implementation processes.

Technology integration in primary education will help the students own and control their learning so that their education becomes more personal and self-driven activity. On the other hand, the teachers will rather be facilitators than lecturers. The students will be the experts while the teachers are there to give scaffolds to them. This process will be more about learning than teaching. Therefore, there will grow a good and successful teacher-student relationship which helps the student gain the courage to ask for help, make a suggestion and implement changes that will help in the success of their education.   A human element is more integral especially when it comes to learning. This goes a long way in the development and providing skills in primary schools especially with the use of technology.
